Paint Creek board acts on overtime, ass’t chief’s pay


The Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District board on Tuesday agreed to pay the nearly $78,000 in unpaid overtime that was identified during a recent investigation, as well as pay the assistant fire chief wages comparable to the chief’s wages during the time he has filled that position.

The board met in special session Tuesday, spending the bulk of the meeting in executive session before emerging to take official action on the overtime and assistant chief wage issue, said Jon Salyer, human resources manager and public information officer for Paint Creek.

Salyer said the action on wages for Assistant Chief Chad Hamilton will amount to an additional amount of around $1,500. Hamilton has been filling in as interim chief in the absence of Bradley George, who has been serving a suspension.

The unpaid overtime will be paid to a variety of full-time and part-time firefighters who were determined to be eligible for the back pay, Salyer said earlier.

George has been on leave since early July when the board suspended him pending an investigation into a number of allegations brought by Paint Creek staff members.

Initially, the chief was on paid leave, but after the board found merit to three charges against him he was placed on unpaid leave for 30 more days. He is scheduled to return to work Oct. 9.

The board is believed to have been working lately on a set of guidelines and directives that will be put into place for the chief to follow, as it promised to do when George was placed on unpaid leave.

The board’s next scheduled meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13.
