Hibbett Sports, which announced in September its intention to open a store in Hillsboro, is set to officially open its doors for business Saturday, according to information released by the company.

The retailer has moved into the former Dollar General building at 102 Harry Sauner Rd. and will employ about eight people.

“We’re thrilled to be opening a new store in Hillsboro,” Jeff Rosenthal, president and CEO of Hibbett Sports, Inc., said in a press release. “People in Hillsboro take their sports seriously, and we plan to give them the athletic products and know-how they’ve been looking for.”

According to store manager Brian Hook, the store had a “soft opening” on Thursday, which gave people a chance to come in and check things out. There are also holiday sales going on, he said.

Hibbett Sports will be officially open on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday noon to 7 p.m., and next week 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Then on Dec. 19 Hibbett will host a grand opening, offering the first 25 customers a $10 gift card and those making purchases a chance for giveaway prizes, according to Jessica Casto, an advertising liaison for the company.

After the holidays, store hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and on Sunday noon to 6 p.m., Hook said.

According to the news release from Hibbett Sports, the national sporting goods retailer offers “a large selection of quality branded athletic equipment, footwear and apparel.”

The Alabama-based athletic store chain has more than 1,000 locations in the country, which are in primarily “small and mid-size markets.”

According to a press release, “The retailer features an expansive selection of brand name merchandise, with an eye toward meeting the needs of the team and individual sports participants. Hibbett Sports has a long history of focusing on the needs of local teams and leagues, providing a variety of services to meet the needs of coaches and players alike.”

The release states that the retailer offers the Hibbett Sports MVP Rewards program, which is a customer loyalty program.

“Our customers in Hillsboro can go online to www.hibbett.com today and sign up for the program to start earning points with their very first purchases,” said Rosenthal. Customers can also find Hibbett Sports on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@HibbettSports).

Hibbett Sports was started in 1945 and its “focus has been on serving the local community,” said Rosenthal. “No matter how many stores we open, we don’t lose sight of the fact that every town we serve is a hometown.”
