One injured in SR 247 crash

A man escaped with nonlife-treatening injuries Friday after a one-car rollover accident that temporatiloy closed SR 247 just south of Fairfax at approximately 11:15 a.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Matthew Unger, 31, of Peebles, was driving a red Hyundai southbound on SR 247, about a half-mile south of Fairfax, when drove his vehicle off the side of the road into a ditch, struck a culvert and overturned.

The compact vehicle came to a rest suspended over a deep ditch laying against a concrete culvert and held up by a wire fence.

Unger was trapped in the vehicle, hanging out of the driver’s side door from about the waist up, according to the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District personnel. He was placed on a stretcher and loaded into a Paint Creek ambulance, but shortly thereafter he was transported to a CareFlight helicopter that landed at the scene and was flown to Miami Valley Hosptial in Dayton.

The state patrol said Unger was talking at the scene of the crash and that his injuries were nonlife-threatening.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, the state patrol said.
