Two locations for 4th Blues, Brews & Stews

Greening Greater Greenfield’s Blues, Brews & Stews is just around the corner, and this year it will be at two different downtown Greenfield venues.

From 7-10:30 p.m. on Feb. 27, one ticket at $10 will get a person entry into SPARK! Creative Artspace to hear the acoustic blues of Micah Kesselring, and also at Catch 22 Sports Pub to listen to the electric blues of Gary Williams and The Back Talk Blues Band.

Kesselring hails from South Bloomingville, Ohio. According to his ReverbNation page, he has played blues music since he was 14 years old, and while having earned success in the United States, he has also taken his blues abroad.

The Dayton-based Gary Williams and The Back Talk Blues Band’s sound is “hard drivin’ blues and southern soul,” according to its Facebook page, and characterized as Chicago and Texas style blues. The band performed at last year’s Blues, Brews & Stews.

In its three previous years the event has been held at three different venues, but as the festival keeps growing, Debra Crago with G3 said the organization thought this year was a good opportunity to “highlight downtown and use local businesses.” Having two different venues, she said, will give people a choice of venue and the two bands, who each play different styles of the same genre.

The ticket price for the event not only includes the entertainment, but the sampling of numerous different homemade soups, stews and chilies. For a penny a vote, attendees will be able to vote on their favorite selections, with trophies awarded to the top three in each category. For those interested in submitting a soup, stew, or chili for the cook-off, the deadline to register is Feb. 20, Crago said.

Food and adult beverages will be available at both venues, according to organizers, but alcoholic beverages cannot be carried from the establishment where they were purchased.

For $5, attendees can also purchase a commemorative classic pint glass with the G3 logo and the event name and year etched into it. That purchase price also includes a free, first-time fill up, Crago said.

A silent auction and a 50/50 drawing will also be a part of the event. All proceeds from the evening benefit G3.

Tickets can be purchased on the night of the event or in advance from any G3 committee member or on the Eventbrite website. Go to eventbrite.com and search “G3’s 4th annual Blues, Brews, & Stews Winterfest” to get to the appropriate page to make ticket purchases.

For more information about the event or to obtain the application and the rules for the soups cook-off, go to g3greenfield.org. Greening Greater Greenfield also has a Facebook page.

According to its website, “Greening Greater Greenfield is going all out this year to make this event bigger and better. Our goal is to grow it into a major winter event for southwestern Ohio.”
