Three children to father temporarily

Three children are now in the temporary custody of their father under court-ordered protective supervision, an arrangement that the children’s mother agreed to this week in Highland County Juvenile Court.

The children, now between the ages of 10 and 6, were initially removed from their home in 2014 after their mother admitted to using heroin, according to the complaint filed at the time. Temporary custody was eventually placed with Children Services.

Nearly a year ago, custody of the children was revested with their mother, but months later an emergency order from the court removed them from the home again after the mother tested positive for drugs.

For now, the temporary custody with the father is for six months.

In another hearing, custody of a now 12-year-old previously surrendered to the court system has been placed back with the mother.

Temporary custody of the child went to Children Services about a year and a half ago, the child’s mother citing extreme behavioral issues with the child, according to the filed complaint.

Since that time, the mother has engaged in a case plan established by Children Services while the child has been in the care of the county agency.

In other hearings, a 15-year-old who last week was ordered to remain in detention after an altercation with a parent saw him taken into custody, this week was released back to the custody of his parents.

He admitted to criminal damaging and a charge of domestic violence was dismissed. The teenager will be on community control indefinitely and must complete an anger management class.

A mother’s drug use has prompted the placement of a newborn into the temporary custody of Children Services for a year. The mother, who admitted the dependency of the child this week, is to engage in a case plan through Children Services.

A dependent child is defined by Ohio law as: one who is homeless, destitute or lacking in adequate parental care through no fault of the child’s guardians; a child who lacks the adequate parental care due to the mental or physical condition of the child’s guardians; whose condition or environment is such as to warrant the state, in the interests of the child, in assuming the child’s guardianship.

A 17-year-old male admitted to misdemeanor criminal trespass. He is ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Another 17-year-old male admitted to misdemeanor theft. Judgment in the case was transferred to Clermont County where the teenager resides.

In five separate cases, five students between the ages of 12 and 17 admitted to being truant from school. Each were ordered to attend school with no further absences or tardies and each have a suspended commitment to out-of-home placement should the orders of the court be violated.

A 16-year-old female involved in one of the truancy cases also admitted to misdemeanor assault. She was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
