Charges anticipated for runaway juvenile

A 17-year-old previously reported as missing has been located and is unharmed, but stands to face charges in Highland County Juvenile Court.

The female was reported to have not returned to her Greenfield home on Feb. 16 and was not located until Sunday, Feb. 21, according to information released by the Greenfield Police Department.

According to GPD officer in charge Sgt. Jeremiah Oyer, the police department since Feb. 16 followed “numerous tips” until the 17-year-old was located at a residence on SR 753 just outside the village limits on Sunday afternoon. At that point, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office was called into to assist.

The female was “found unharmed” and later transported to a juvenile detention center, Oyer reported.

The teenager had a detention hearing on Monday in the Highland County Juvenile Court and she was returned to the detention facility at least until a future hearing, which is set for early March. On Tuesday, Highland County Juvenile Court Judge Kevin Greer said the female tested positive for illicit drugs following Monday’s hearing.

While charges associated with unruly and delinquent behavior are anticipated, as of Tuesday afternoon, a complaint had not yet been filed with the juvenile court.

According to Oyer, the matter remains under investigation.
