Lady Tigers looking to improve with experience and hard work

The McClain Lady Tigers softball team finished at an even 9-9 last year and right smack in the middle of the South Central Ohio League standings. At the end of the season they graduated three seniors who left some pretty big shoes to fill.

This year the Lady Tigers have two seniors on their roster; Kelsey Smith and Savannah Anderson. They also welcome back four juniors which means the team has a very experience core for the 2016 season.

Head Coach Ed Bolender has pushed his girls this season more than any year before and because of it, they are further ahead than they have ever been. Even with that, and some good play so far in the preseason, coach Bolender says his team has plenty to work on.

“The girls are working together to get better every day,” said Bolender. “We still have some things to work on but we’ve looked very solid in the preseason. One of the things we have to work on the most is leaving girls on base. We leave too many out there and those are runs we could use.

“Even with the small things we need to fix, I think going into the season, it will be easy to work on those things. This is a great group of girls and with their work ethic, we should be able to work on the things we need to work on and improve as the season progresses. I am looking forward to the season with this team and think these girls will fight hard for some wins this year.”

The Lady Tigers will kick off their season Monday, March 28 when they travel to Peebles High School. The game is set to start at 5:00 p.m.
