Local amateur radio club to give FCC tests

The Highland Amateur Radio Association will offer amateur radio operator’s license examinations beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 10 at the Hillsboro First Methodist Church, 133 E. Walnut St., Hillsboro.

Tests for the technician, general and extra class licenses will be given. The Clinton County Amateur Radio Association license examination team will conduct and oversee the examination.

Applicants must furnish the original and one photocopy of their current license (if any), original and one photocopy of any certificates of successful completion of examination (CSCE) they may hold, positive (photo) or other acceptable identification and federal license ID number (FRN).

Those applying for their first license are asked to apply for their Federal Communications ID number (FRN) before attending the test session. That number an be applied for online at https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do. Registration for the number is free.

HARA President Lee Bishop said this test session is the climax to a very successful amateur radio license course sponsored by the local club and taught by local amateurs. There is no charge of any kind for taking an amateur radio examination at this test session. No preregistration is required, and no test fees will be collected.
