The Whiteoak Wildcats baseball team hosted Green High School on Saturday this weekend for a double header and improved to 4-2 after winning both games.

In the first game the Wildcats scored in every inning except for the sixth, winning the game 6-1. Leading the team at the plate were Trevor Martin, Chase Carraher, and Evan Brill with two hits a piece. All three scored in the game and Martin and Brill both had RBIs as well. Jacob Burns and Traeten Hamilton both had two hits in the game and Hamilton also reached base three more times getting hit with a pitch and walking twice.

On the mound in game one was Burns who went the distance, throwing seven innings and allowing just the one run on five hits while striking out seven and walking none.

“Jake Burns was masterful for us on the mound today,” said coach Chris Veidt. “It took him only 77 pitches to throw a complete game. He was in control. our team defense behind him was solid. Traeten Hamilton, Joey Oliver and Trever Yeager were 10-11 in quality at-bats between them. Trevor Martin, Chase Carraher, and Evan Brill swung the bat well each contributing 2 hits.”

In the second game, the Whiteoak team scored one run in the second inning and one in the sixth while holding their opponents scoreless to take a 2-0 win. Burns, Hamilton, Trevor Yeager, Brandon Lowe, and Austin Lewis all had one hit each, Yeager’s being a double and Lowe collecting an RBI.

Austin Lewis collected the win on the pitcher’s mound going 6 2/3 innings allowing only three hits and striking out two. Martin came in for the final 1/3 of the the last inning to pick up the save.

“We did it with pitching and defense today in both games,” Veidt said. “The two most valuable commodities a team can have. Austin Lewis was impressive on the mound, gaining his first Varsity victory. He gave up a weak infield single in the second, and wasn’t touched again until he began to tire with two outs in 7th. Trevor Martin came in and got a clutch bases loaded one pitch save for us. He warmed up well, appeared ready to slam the door and did so in impressive fashion. [Green’s] kid (Kimbler) pitched a nice game but as a team we need to have better plans and pitch selection throughout the lineup. Aggressive is good, but smart and aggressive is awesome. As a team we have been executing very well in close games in pressure situations. Both games today and the 3-2 win at South Webster are proof of that.”

Next for Whiteoak will be a game on the road Tuesday, April 5 at Eastern High School for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference matchup and will begin at 4:30 p.m.
