Two more arrested for meth

Highland County’s third reported meth bust in a week’s time has seen two more people put behind bars on the associated charges of the alleged crimes.

John Gunter, 34, and Alisa Kirschner, 32, both of Greenfield, were arrested Wednesday following an investigation at their residence.

According to Greenfield Police Sgt. Jeremiah Oyer, the GPD accompanied the Adult Parole Authority and Highland County Children Services to the home on South Seventh Street for a follow-up on matters involving the female. He said that when on the premises police were alerted to possible drug activity by the “odor of chemicals.”

Oyer said a request to search the home was granted by its inhabitants, Gunter and Kirschner, and “after evidence of possible meth activity” was located, the house was vacated.

Found in a search of the home were four “generators,” which Oyer said are part of the methamphetamine cooking process, “loaded syringes,” suspected finished product, “a large amount of drug paraphernalia,” as well as all the necessary chemicals “to produce another meth lab,” the sergeant said.

Gunter and Kirschner each are charged with illegal manufacture of drugs and illegal assembly. Typically those charges are second- and third-degree felonies, respectively, but Oyer said the felony levels are increased due to the offenses being committed within the vicinity of a school zone. Both alleged offenders are currently held in jail on $170,000 bonds and are due to appear in Highland County Court in Greenfield on Friday morning.

According to records, both Gunter and Kirschner were released from prison within the last several months, Gunter in September and Kirschner in August. Each was previously sentenced to prison on drug charges.

Items seized at their residence on Wednesday will be analyzed by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and the matter will be reviewed by the Highland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Assisting the Greenfield Police Department on scene were Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District and the Highland County Sheriff’s Office.
