Indians beat up on Astros

The Hillsboro Indians finished a very successful week of baseball on Friday night as they hosted the East Clinton Astros on their home field in Hillsboro. The 10-0 run-rule gave the Indians their third win of the week as well as their second South Central Ohio League win.

All nine hitters in the line up earned themselves a spot in the box score, each getting at least one hit. Brian Smith and Mason Stanley led the Indians with three hits each, with one of Stanley’s being a double. Jesse Walker, Hunter Chain and Ryan Hagan had two hits each, with Chain getting a double. Wyatt Condo, Jake Deatley, Cayse Cameron, and D.J. Brown all chipped in with one hit a piece. Walker led Hillsboro in RBI’s, knocking in three runs. Smith and Chain both batted in two and Cameron and Condo both had one RBI.

Walker also collected the win on the mound for the Indians going all six innings in the run-rule. He allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out six batters and allowing no runs.

The Indians other league win this week came on Thursday as they traveled to Washington. The Hillsboro baseball team won that game 7-0 behind another outstanding pitching performance, this one from Cayse Cameron. He allowed just four hits and struck out in the win. Leading the Indians at the plate in that game was Ryan Hagan who was 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored twice himself.

“It’s been a great week but we have a big double header tomorrow so we want the guys to stay focused and get ready for that,” said Head Coach Tim Hunt after the game. “But it was a good week. Last night we beat Courthouse 7-0 and anytime you beat them, it’s a good thing, especially a quality team like that. Cayse Cameron pitched great last night and Jess [Walker] came out tonight and threw strikes like we asked him to and had a great game too. Our pitchers are throwing strikes, our defense is starting to work, so we’re really happy with the way things are going right now. The kids attitudes are really positive and we’re just really enjoying coming to the ballpark right now. We struggled a little early on, but we seem to be finding our groove now.

“Now we’re sitting at 4-3 in the league so we’re right there. Same as last year. We’re right in the thick of things we just have to finish strong in the league.”

Up next for the Indians will be a double header against Little Miami on Saturday, April 16 on the road.
