Paint Creek firefighters responded to reports of separate structure fires on Monday, with Leesburg assisting on one, and Paint Creek assisting Lynchburg on another.

According to public information officer Branden Jackman, Paint Creek was dispatched to the home of Gary Hochenberger on Mt. Olive road in Ross County just before 1:30 p.m. First arriving units found a pole barn heavily involved in flames and part of the roof had already collapsed prior to Paint Creek arriving on scene, said Jackman.

The owner had used the pole barn for storage of vehicles, machinery and tools and the building and contents were deemed a total loss. Crews from Paint Creek remained on scene for several hours taking care of hot spots and preventing the fire from spreading into nearby woods, said Jackman.

Paint Creek was assisted on scene by crews from Leesburg, Wayne Township in Fayette County, Twin Township and Bainbridge from Ross County.

All fire crews were clear of Mt. Olive Road by 4:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is undetermined but is not believed to be suspicious in nature, said Jackman. There were no injuries reported to either fire personnel or the owner of the pole barn.

Lynchburg received notification of a possible structure fire on Webertown Road outside Lynchburg around 8 p.m. Monday, said Jackman. The home was owned by David West and was rented out to a third party at the time of the fire, according to Jackman.

Lynchburg fire units arriving on scene were met by heavy fire and smoke and immediately attacked the fire, bringing it under control within an hour, said Jackman

A squad was requested at the location to check out an individual for possible smoke inhalation. No treatment was rendered by the squad and no transports were made to the hospital.

Lynchburg was assisted on scene by firefighters from Martinsville, Midland, Fayetteville and Paint Creek. The fire is under investigation, but is also deemed to be non-suspicious. The displaced family was being assisted by members of the American Red Cross.

All fire units were clear of Webertown Road by 11 p.m.
