Men’s group fish fry

The Sinking Spring Community Church Men’s Group will have its annual Fish Fry on Saturday, April 30 in the fellowship hall of the church from 4-8 p.m. The menu will consist of fish, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, hot dogs, tea, lemonade, coffee and various desserts.

Songfest at D0dsonville church

The Dodsonville Community Church, 1810 U.S. Route 50, will host a songfest with the group New Again at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church will be held Saturday, April 30. Eat-in only serving is from 4 – 4:30 p.m. The menu will be ham, hash brown casserole, corn and pudding.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will be served Saturday, April 30 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise is at 4:30 p.m. Dinner is served 5-6 p.m. The menu will be vegetable soup with crackers, pimento cheese sandwiches, fruit cocktail, assorted desserts and drinks. The meal is served eat-in only.

Retired teachers host HHS choir

The Hillsboro High School Symphonic Choir and director David White will be featured at the May 2 meeting of the Highland County Retired Teachers Association held at the Hillsboro Senior Citizens Center. Social hour is 11 a.m. to noon, the luncheon is at noon, and then the program. To honor Mother’s Day, the community service effort willbe a money tree for the Southern Ohio Pregnancy Center. Immunization clinic

There will be a clinic for immunizations only from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2-6 p.m. Monday, May 2 at the Highland County Health Department, 1487 N. High St., Suite 400, Hillsboro.

AGMC Volunteers dinner, raffle

The AGMC Volunteers will hold a Dine and Donate event from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3 at 3 Spoons Diner in Greenfield. The restaurant has committed to donating 10 percent of all sales, including delivery orders, to the Adena Greenfield Medical Center Volunteers. There is also a Lavender & Lace Mother’s Day Basket Raffle. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The basket has an estimated value of $265 and includes a candle, jewelry, music box, watch, ring and holder, Champagne with glass, cracelet, tea, scarf, necklace and earrings, lotion and soap, Victoria Secret items, willow tree, doily, dinner at 3 Spoons, corsage at Robbins Florists and a pedicure at The Glitz.

Care-A-Van schedule

The Care-A-Van Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service brought to you by the Highland County Health Department and Highland District Hospital, will visit the the Walmart parking lot in Hillsboro from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 3.

Hillsboro AAUW applications

The Hillsboro Area AAUW is accepting applications for its 2016 scholarships. The applicant must be a current resident of the Highland County area and must have resided in the county for at least two years. The scholarships are awarded to nontraditional female students whose education has been interrupted or delayed. Applications are available at the libraries in Highland County. Rhoden Memorial Fund

A Rhoden Memorial Fund as been set up at Fifth Third Bank for the victims in the Pike County murders to help cover funeral costs. Anyone wanting to donate should contact the bank.

Rummage sale at Hillsboro UMC

A rummage sale will be held at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, 133 E. Walnut St., on Thursday, May 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday, May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Friday will be fill a bag day for $1. The event is sponsored by the United Methodist Women.

May Friendship Day

May Friendship Day will be celebrated Friday, May 6 at the Cornerstone Assembly of God 8343 SR 73, Hillsboro. This year’s theme is Finding Grace at the Table and marks both the 60th anniversary of the Fellowship of the Least Coin and the 75th anniversary of Church Women United. The event will start at 11 a.m. with a celebration, followed by a carry-in lunch. Bring a covered dish to share. The purpose of Church Women United is to encourage women to come together in a visible community to witness their faith in Jesus Christ and, enabled by the Holy Spirit, to go out into every neighborhood and nation as instruments of reconciling love.

Fairfield Scholastic Recognition

The Fairfield High School Scholastic Achievement Recognition Program and Reception will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 9 in the Fairfield High School gymnasium. Students to be recognized include student council members, class officers, Academy of Scholars, honor roll, It’s Academic team, National Honor Society, Fairfield News Team and Webmasters, journalism and art awards. Refreshments will be provided by the high school student council and will be served following the program. Everyone is invited.

Belfast School Alumni Reunion

The annual Belfast School Alumni Reunion will be held Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Ponderosa Banquet Center in Hillsboro. The doors open with appetizers at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. The cost of the meal is $12. Special classes being honored are 1926, 1936, 1946, 1956 and 1966. All graduates and their guests, former teachers, and those who attended Belfast are welcome. To make a reservation, call Glenna Leeth at 937-393-2947.

Highland bicentennial dinner

A Highland bicentennial spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held May 14 from 5-7 p.m. in the Masonic Lodge, Leesburg, on SR 28. The menu will consist of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and desserts. The cost is a donation.

Poker run for JUMP

The fourth annual poker run to benefit JUMP will be held Saturday, May 14 at the Hillsboro Eagles. Sign-in is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with the poker run at noon. The entry fee is $15 per person or $25 per couple. There will be a 50/50 raffle, auction, raffles and entertainment by Private Issue. Food will be available through the kitchen. Fairfield board meeting change

The Fairfield Local School Board of Education has changed the date of its May regular monthly meeting. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 in the District Office Conference Room. The public is invited to attend.

Red Hat Society Spring Fling

The local Red Hat Society will host its annual Hillsboro Spring Fling from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 26 at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center, 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro. The event is for Red Hat members only, but if you are interested in becoming a member you can register at the door for $20. For more information call 937-403-6424.

Candle fundraiser for shelter

The Highland County Homeless Shelter has teamed up with Camelot Farms Candles for an April fundraiser. Orders are due by April 30 and order forms can be sent to [email protected].

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group

The Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family and Caregiver Support Group will hold a program on the first Monday of each month from from 5-6:30 p.m. at Edgewood Manor, 850 Nellie St., Greenfield.
