A Leesburg man who reportedly ran from police Wednesday night is in custody after he was located by a K-9.

According to Leesburg Police Chief Shane Nolley, the village was notified at about 10:20 p.m. of a possible OVI driver headed toward the village. When the vehicle was located, it was also discovered that it had no license plate, Nolley said.

Police pulled over the vehicle and during the investigation it was found that the driver had provided a false name and the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Fayette County, Nolley said.

The driver then fled the scene on foot and was pursued by Leesburg police, who were also on foot, but police lost track of the suspect. The Greenfield Police Department was contacted to bring in a K-9.

The GPD’s K-9 Rony tracked the suspect to an apartment complex on Eastern Avenue in Leesburg. Nolley said Gerald Jackson Jr., 34, was located at the complex and arrested.

The police chief said Jackson is facing two counts of obstructing official business, possession of drug paraphernalia, OVI, and fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property.

Records show Jackson is currently being held at the Highland County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

Along with the Greenfield Police Department, Nolley said the Highland County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance at the scene.
