Nominations for Women’s HOF taken

Nominations of women to be considered for induction into this year’s Highland County Women’s Hall of Fame are now being accepted.

The induction banquet is set to take place in the atrium at Southern State Community College in Hillsboro on Aug. 16, but the deadline to get nominations in is the end of June.

Since 1981, first through the AAUW and now through a special hall of fame committee, two to four women have been inducted into the hall each year in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions to the community.

The first women to be inducted into the Highland County Women’s Hall of Fame were Violet Morgan, Lillie Ann Faris, Dorothy Anderson Lynch, and Rosalie Morgan.

Last year, Lisa Barnhouse, Cathy Griffith, and Sue Frizzell Zint joined those women, and the nearly 100 more who have been inducted into the hall of fame over the last three decades.

As previously stated by hall of fame committee member Virginia Purdy, the Highland County Women’s Hall of Fame “gives people in Highland County an opportunity every year to get together and recognize women who have made positive contributions to all aspects of life in the community.”

To be eligible for nomination, a nominee must have been born in Highland County or lived in the county for at least five years.

Nominations consist of a cover sheet and a written summary of the nominee’s achievements. Nomination forms are available at The Times-Gazette, the Highland County District Library in Hillsboro, as well as the library branches in Greenfield, Leesburg, and Lynchburg.

Submissions must be postmarked by June 30 and mailed to the Women’s Recognition Committee, PO Box 303, Hillsboro, Ohio, 45133.

All nominations are reviewed by judges who do not live in Highland County, and are evaluated on the scope and impact of the nominee’s achievements and the extent to which her efforts provide inspiration for other women, according to the form.
