15-year-old to youth prison

One teenager has been sent to the prison system for youth while three others are to remain held in detention for a time, all for varying reasons, this week in Highland County Juvenile Court.

A 15-year-old’s fate, at least for the next year, will be spending time at the Department of Youth Services (DYS), which is Ohio’s prison system for juveniles.

The male previously admitted to second-degree felony burglary and remained on community control on that case. But this week he admitted to violating his probation and also admitted to a new offense of misdemeanor sexual imposition.

The 15-year-old was ordered to DYS, where he will remain for no less than a year, and for a maximum of up to when he turns 21 years old. How long he remains past one year is up to DYS.

Another 15-year-old male was ordered to detention for two weeks after he admitted to violating his community control, which he was on after previously admitting to misuse of a credit card and disorderly conduct.

A 16-year-old male arrested within the last week for a domestic dispute with his parents was ordered to remain in detention at least until his next hearing in the court.

A female teenager will stay in detention until the end of May after admitting to violating her probation. She is on community control for previous cases of underage consumption and truancy.

A 16-year-old male admitted to criminal damaging and criminal trespass. He is to perform 16 hours of community service and has a suspended commitment to detention.

A male and a female, each 15 years old, in separate cases admitted to being truant. They were each ordered to attend school with no further unexcused absences or tardies. Each has a suspended commitment to out-of-home placement that will remain suspended so long as they obey the law and the orders of the court. Additionally, the female was put on reporting probation.
