The Lynchburg Area Joint Fire and Ambulance District board will meet again in special session at 6 p.m. Friday as it continues the hiring process for a new chief.

According to a notice from Kim Walker, fiscal officer, the board “will be discussing chief candidates and interviews.” The meeting will be held at the Lynchburg fire station, 8123 SR 135.

The board met Tuesday when three interviews were scheduled. Richard Warner, the Lynchburg police chief who is helping with the search process, said earlier that the three being interviewed were deemed those who best met the qualifications that were outlined.

He said that if no one was offered the position based on Tuesday’s interviews, more interviews with additional candidates would be scheduled. Warner said the hope is have a chief hired before the month is over.

The vacancy in the chief’s position came about when former chief David Manning was hired as assistant chief with the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District, a job he began on April 5.

The Lynchburg department covers the village of Lynchburg and all of Dodson, Salem and Hamer townships, plus half of Union township.

The Lynchburg fire district board holds regular meetings the second Tuesday of each month. Usually, a finance meeting begins at 6:45 p.m. and the regular meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Meetings are held at the Lynchburg fire station every month except for March, June, September and December when the meetings are held at the Pricetown station.
