The Lynchburg-Clay softball team won their first round sectional tournament game against Adena on Thursday night with a final score of 12-6.

The Lady Mustangs pounded out 17 hits in the game, led by junior Hannah Binkley who went 4-for-5 with a grand slam and a solo home run. She finished with five RBIs in the game and scored three times herself. Also contributing at the plate for the Lady Mustangs was a 4-for-4 night from Sophomore catcher Hannah Morgan who tallied an RBI and a run scored. Serah Whitacre, Cailee Elam, and Lauren Meddock all collected two hits a piece and Hayley McConnaughey, Chelsi Hacker and Kaitlin Waits all had one each.

“I am very proud of the teams focus and energy throughout tonight’s game,” said Lady Mustangs Head Coach Heather Brown after the game. “We had strong hitting through the lineup, and minimal errors on the field. Our team charisma contributed to tonight’s big win for us and I hope this continues throughout the tournament”.

The Lady Mustangs traveled to Westfall High School on Friday, May 13 to face off against no. 1 seeded Westfall. Results of that game will be in a copy of Tuesday’s Times-Gazette.
