The faculty of the Wilmington College Mathematics Department selected Corey A. Walker to receive one of the department’s primary scholarships available for the 2016-17 academic year.
Walker is a senior mathematics education major from Hillsboro. A graduate of Hillsboro High School and the recipient of last year’s Martha Haines Scholarship, he will receive the Laurence and Ruby Adamson Memorial Scholarship.
Kincaid explained the Adamsons had limited formal education, but recognized the value a dedicated student can receive through education. This scholarship was established to recognize students who value their own education.
“Corey’s work ethic is extremely strong,” Kincaid said, noting he even audited the abstract algebra course a year after he had earned a strong grade in the course simply to gain additional knowledge in the subject. “As a tutor in the WC Math Center, Corey has contributed much of his time and expertise over the last two years to struggling students.”
