Nine more athletes heading to state track meet


Nine more local athlete qualified for the state track meet over the weekend as the regional meet wrapped up.

One of the big winners was McClain’s Cody Hardesty who placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.69. Also from McClain, Alex Hollar raced for a third place finish in the 100 meter dash, while Jhaela Coleman placed fourth in the 100 meter dash. Kaylee Hurley qualified for four events at the state meet, getting the best qualifying time in the 800 meter with a time of 2:57.45. She also qualified for state in the 100 (21.82), the 400 (1:19.02), and the shot put (15-05).

For Hillsboro, Mackenzie Conlon qualified in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles with times of 15.31 and 39.72. Conlon along with Anthony Anderson, Luke Gallimore and Braden Wildey, who make up Hillsboro’s 4×200 meter team, finished third at the regional meet qualifying them for the state meet with a time of 1:31.46.

Another big winner in the regional meet was Lynchburg-Clay’s Bailey Leininger who won in the shot put with a personal best throw of 127-06. The throw was also a new school record for Lynchburg.

All of the athletes who qualified for the state meet will now compete Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium located on the campus the The Ohio State University. The state track meet will officially kick off on Friday, June 3 at 9:30 a.m.
