Event cancellation

The Derby Days Dinner that Today’s Hope Tomorrow’s Future planned for June 4 at Alley 21 in Hillsboro has been cancelled. Please stay tuned for upcoming dedication photos for the play set going to the Highland County Homeless Shelter and a children’s play barn for the Help Me Grow Program. Farmer’s market vendors wanted

Civil Service Commission

The Hillsboro Civil Service Commission will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 2 in the Hillsboro City Building to certify Civil Service Test scores for the position of police officer. The meeting is open to the public.

Movie Night at Leesburg UNM

The Leesburg United Methodist Church will present an outdoor Family Fun & Movie Night on Friday, June 3 featuring “Paddington.” Activities will begin at 8 o,n, on the church grounds at 117 Church St., Leesburg. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. The movie begins at sunset. All minors must be accompanied by a parent/adult for the evening. There will be fun activities, hot dogs, popcorn, sodas, and cookies and a free drawing for a movie package for a family of four at Star Cinema in Hillsboro. The next movie night will be Friday, July 22 featuring “Inside Out.”

One-day indoor yard sale

The one-day indoor yard sale event at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center is Friday, June 3 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop and shop or rent a table. The senior center provides tables and chairs. Members: $10 per table, non-members: $15 per table. The community is encouraged to attend. The sale also includes a live band performance, a free giveaway for Kings Island tickets and lunch. First Presbyterian Rummage Sale

The First Presbyterian Church, 210 E. Main St., Hillsboro, will hold a rummage and bake sale Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the basement of the church. The proceeds from the sale will benefit the church’s organ fund for maintenance and repair. The church is offering the community the chance to rent space in the -foot space is $10 and tables are available to rent for an additional $5 fee.

Donations for the rummage sale will be accepted at the church starting May 17 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during church office hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday, May 28, someone will be at the church between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to accept donations from folks who can’t make it during the week. The last day for donations will be May 31. No clothing or large furniture items. For more information call the church office 393-3171.

Elevate Christ Community Church

Elevate Christ Community Church has announced upcoming activities for the month of June. An Elevation Music Festival will be held Saturday, June 4, 12 p.m., at the Christian Union Campgrounds, 378 Chestnut St., Greenfield, rain or shine. Samuel Day, Jacob Shane & Co., Beauty From Ashes, Encounter, Revolution, Ethan and the Elevate Christ Community Church Band will perform.

Vacation Bible School will be held June 20-23 from 2-4 p.m. at the church.

On June 20-23, there will be a soccer and cheerleading camp for grades K-five from 2-4 p.m.

A tent revival will be held June 24 and 25 at Felson Park, Greenfield. Music starts at 6 p.m. with the revival beginning at 7 p.m. Evangelist Joe Veal will be speaking. Kindred Spirit Trio and East to West will be the featured musical guests.

Fruitdale rummage, yard, bake sale

The Fruitdale United Methodist Church on SR 41 south of Greenfield will hold a rummage, yard and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 4.

Charlie’s Angels Flea Market

A Charlie’s Angels Relay for Life Flea Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at the Walmart parking lot in Hillsboro. The cost is $25 to reserve a site and reservations must be made by May 27. No firearms, knives or weapons are permitted. Dance company golf outing fundraiser

The Modern Movement Dance Company is holding a golf outing fundraiser on June 4 at Buckeye Hills, 7216 Limes Rd., Greenfield. The event is sponsored by Greenfield’s Catch 22 Sports Pub. The cost is $240 for a four-person team, or $60 per person. Registration begins at noon with tee off at 1:30 p.m. Hole sponsorships are $50, and corporate sponsorships are $275, which includes a hole sponsorship, a corporate sign, and pays for a team of four. The event will include food and beer, prizes, raffles, contest holes, and more. Live music will follow that evening at Catch 22.

Northview Baptist VBS

The Hometown Nazareth Marketplace Vacation Bible School will be held June 6-9, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Northview Baptist Church. There will be costumes, time period crafts, singing, drama, and even a petting farm.

Mowrystown Community VBS

The Mowrystown Community VBS will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 6-10 at the Mowrystown Presbyterian Church. Everyone is welcome.

Hillsboro Church of God VBS

The Hillsboro Church of God will hold Vacation Bible School June 6-10 from 6-8:30 p.m. It will be for ages 2-13. The church is located at 5760 U.S. Route 62, Hillsboro.

Greenfield community wide yard sale

The Greenfield Community Wide Yard Sale will be held on June 10 and 11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each day. Check out the group page on Facebook by searching “Greenfield Community Wide Yard Sale.”

Sinking Spring School Alumni Dinner

The annual Sinking Spring School Alumni Dinner will be held Saturday, June 11 at the Sinking Spring Community Center. All graduates, attending students, faculty and friends are invited to attend. Social hour is 406 p.m.. Dinner will be a catered buffet served at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $12 per person and reservations can be sent to Sinking spring Alumni Association, P.O. St. Mary’s rummage, bake sale

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at the corner of North High and North streets in Hillsboro will hold a rummage and bake sale on Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Cave Quest VBS in South Salem

A summer kids’ event called Cave Quest VBS will be hosted at Buckskin Community Church in South Salem, Tuesday, June 14 through Thursday, June 16. At Cave Quest, kids explore what it means to follow Jesus through dark times. Kids participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing songs, play teamwork-building games, dig into yummy treats, experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures, meet Bible Memory Buddies to remind them of Jesus’ love, and make fun crafts. Family members and friends are encouraged to join in the special Cave Quest Closing at 8 p.m. each day. Cave Quest is for kids who have completed gradses K-6 and will run from 6 to 8:20 p.m. each day. Pre-registration forms are encouraged and can be obtained at the church’s Facebook page. Beginning June 20, the Hillsboro Planning Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the Hillsboro Firehouse, 204 N. East St., Hillsboro. The meetings are open to the public.

HHS All Class Meet and Greet

A Hillsboro High School All Class Meet and Greet,sponsored by the class of 1981, will be held at Alley 21 Grille on Friday, June 24 beginning at 7 p.m. Local band Blue Steel will be playing. HHS class of 1957 picnic

The Hillsboro High School class of 1957 will hold a picnic Saturday, June 25 at the Liberty Park Shelter House. Those attending should bring a dish of food. Table service, meat, tea, water and lemonade will be provided. Open Door free meal

The next Open Door free meal at the Greenfield United Methodist Church will be held at 4 p.m. June 25. The menu will be hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans and brownies. Everyone is welcome.

59th Brush and Palette Art Show

The 59th annual Art Show presented by The Brush & Palette Art Guild will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26, from 1-5 p.m. All local artists will be presenting original works of art for sale. The show will be held at Southern State Community College, 100 Hobart Dr., Hillsboro.

Quilt show at HHS

The fifth annual quilt show is planned for July 8-9 at Hillsboro High School. County Quilters members are making the show bigger with more quilts, new demonstrations and vendors. Every year the show has benefited a local charity or a deserving program. The 2016 show profits go toward the Hillsboro City Schools Free Store Food Bank Power Pack program.
