Hillsboro Lions award scholarships

Jacob Helterbrand and Madison Snyder are the recipients of the 2016 Hillsboro Lions Club Scholarships.

Helterbrand graduated from Hillsboro High School with a 2.957 GPA. He competed in baseball four years and was a first-team All-South Central Ohio selection in 2015 and 2016 and a first-team All-Southeast District selection this year.

Helterbrand has earned his FFA State Degree for his work in agriculture and was active in many FFA and 4-H activities. He raised goats for his agriculture project, and helped younger 4-H goat exhibitors with their project books.

Helterbrand will be attending Wilmington College and majoring in agriculture studies.

Snyder graduated with a 4.251 GPA. She maintained the highest GPA among all athletes at Hillsboro High School. She competed in volleyball, basketball (scoring 1,000 points) and softball. She has earned 11 varsity letters and several league and state awards including Academic All-Ohio.

Snyder has acquired 150 hours of volunteer service over the past four years. She noted that she has been a Special Olympics volunteer along with 19 other volunteer positions.

Snyder plans to attend Ohio Northern University and major in pharmacy. She is enrolled in the school’s six-year program of study which will allow her to graduate with a doctoral degree and she be a licensed pharmacist.
