Collecting ‘Sweats for Survivors’

The Highland County Victim Witness Office is embarking on a new campaign to help provide for those in need during a difficult time.

Called “Sweats for Survivors,” the office is taking donations of new T-shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants. The office is asking that sizes range from small to 4XL for both men and women.

The purpose of the program is to outfit those who find themselves “in the middle of a domestic violence situation, sexual abuse situation, or an unexpected family tragedy” who are rushed away from their homes with only the clothes on their backs. “Unfortunately, these scenarios play themselves out all too often in Highland County,” information provided by the Victim Witness Office said.

The campaign is meant “to provide clean, fresh garments for those being uprooted from their life and at the same time let these victims know that Highland County cares.”

Along with accepting the new clothing items mentioned above, the office will also accept funds to purchase the items. Donations can be dropped off at the Victim Witness Office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office is located at 114 Gov. Foraker Pl. in Hillsboro.

An initial deadline to collect items so office staff can get them distributed to hospital personnel is set for Aug. 19. If anyone has questions, contact Jessica Shoemaker or Somer Williams of the Victim Witness Office at 937-393-5872.
