HPD, LPD, GPD receive traffic safety awards

The Hillsboro, Leesburg and Greenfield police departments are among several departments that received awards from AAA this year for their community traffic safety efforts.

“We are honored to recognize these local departments for their efforts in the Community Traffic Safety Program,” said J.J. Miller, AAA East Central safety advisor. “Each organization has gone above and beyond the call of duty to make their community a safer place for motorists and residents.”

Platinum awards were given to “commendable leaders” for their safety efforts and enforcement activities geared toward making communities safer. The recipients of the awards were: Belpre police, Gallia police, Chillicothe police, Jackson County sheriff, Morgan County sheriff, OSHP Chillicothe Post, OSHP Circleville Post, OSHP Gallipolis Post, OSHP Jackson Post, OSHP Portsmouth Post, Piketon police, Portsmouth police, Washington County sheriff, Waverly police, Wellston police and West Union police.

The departments were among hundreds nationwide that participated in the Community Traffic Safety Program recognized by AAA East Central.

Gold awards, the second highest recognition to be given, were awarded to Hillsboro police, Jackson police, OSHP Ironton Post, Peebles police, Pike County sheriff, Ross County sheriff and Seaman police.

Silver awards were given to Fayette County sheriff, Greenfield police, Leesburg police, Lawrence County police, Nobel County sheriff, Oak Hill police and Washington Court House police.

Bronze awards were given to Coal Grove police, Gallipolis police, Caldwell police, McArthur police, New Boston police, Proctorville police and Rio Grande police.

AAA East Central conducts a variety of free highway safety programs throughout Ohio focusing on all age groups. The club also partners with law enforcement and safety agencies on initiatives to improve the safety of the community and local highways.

AAA East Central is a not-for-profit association with 83 local offices in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, New York and Kentucky serving more than 2.7 million members.
