McClain High School Lady Tigers pounced rival Adena High School Lady Warriors Tuesday night in Greenfield.
The game got off to slow start in the first quarter until the Lady Tigers put up 16 points against Adena, taking McClain into a 16-5 lead by the end of the quarter.
That lead set the pace for the second quarter, as McClain’s Lexi Barton scored several shots, including a 3-pointer that took McClain to a 2-point lead for the quarter, bringing the score to 27-15 on the half.
McClain’s defensive edge showed in the second half, as their unrelenting coverage of the Lady Warriors allowed them to take a 22-point lead, bringing the score to 47-25 for the third quarter.
The Lady Tigers’ hometown advantage was evident in the fourth quarter, with Beth Montgomery crushing several layups and free-throws. Adena made a strong defensive effort in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to stop McClain from taking the win with 58-29 on the scoreboard when the clock ran out.
“I was really pleased with having our seniors lead in scoring,” said McClain head coach Jarrod Haines.
The McClain Lady Tigers will travel to Circleville Friday, Dec. 23 to challenge the Circleville Tigers at 7:30 p.m.
