Hillsboro bowling improves record

Hillsboro High School bowling team hosted senior night at Highland Lanes Jan. 30, according to Hillsboro bowling coach Jeff Miller. Opposing teams were Clinton-Massie, McClain and Lynchburg-Clay high schools.

The seniors for all the teams were walked along the lanes with their parents, and presented gifts in front of a packed house for the coming match.

The Hillsboro varsity boys and girls won the match. For the boys, the match ended with Hillsboro winning with a score of 2,435, led by Senior Tyler King with a 409 for two games over SCOL rival Clinton-Massie, with a score of 2356.

McClain came in third with a total score of 2,179. The win put the boys varsity with a leading 10-2 record for the SCOL.

The Lady Indians mowed down the opposition with 2,329, beating the second place McClain by more than 900 pins. Third place went to Clinton-Massie with 946.

The Tribe was led by Senior Alexis Bailey with a 425 series in two games. This win put the girls varsity with a 12-0 record for the SCOL, with only the SCOL tournament to go in the conference.

“We are not ready so say goodbye to our seniors yet,” said Hillsboro bowling coach Jeff Miller. “We have a lot of work to do and some important tournaments to focus on at this point. Yes, we have had a good season so far, but have a difficult road ahead of us. I can tell you right now, no team we face will lay down in front of us. We have to earn our way. As coaches, we carry this stuff pretty close to the chest. And we always think of our seniors on every match, like, ‘wow that’s the last time he or she will be there with us.’ We work so hard and try to pay attention to every little thing to give our athletes every opportunity to excel in our great sport. The thing we are working so hard for is that opportunity to see the look in our seniors’ eyes when they qualify for the state tournament. So, we will focus on our SCOL tournament and then shift to sectionals, and hopefully a district appearance. We have the talent to win.”
