

Hillsboro Chapter 441 was named an Outstanding Chapter recently at the statewide meeting of the Grand Chapter of Ohio, Order of the Eastern Star, held in Dayton.
The award recognizes chapter excellence in the areas of charity and community service, chapter social activities, performance of chapter officers and communications.
Hillsboro Chapter 441 donates to national organizations which as cancer, heart, crippled children’s fund and the eye foundation, along with supporting its district charities and the Order of the Eastern Star Home. The Hillsboro Chapter donates to local charities such as Special Olympics, Kamp Dovetail, Highland County Children Services, 4-H Junior Fair, Highland County Dog Pound, Relay for Life, food pantry, homeless shelter, plus gives away a scholarship each year to a local student. Hillsboro Chapter 441 members also volunteer their time working at hospitals, nursing homes, serving dinner at Kamp Dovetail, A Boy Scout leaders, transporting the elderly and handicap at the fairgrounds during the fair, working at the dog pound, sent Christmas gifts to the Veterans Home in Georgetown, helped with a picnic at the veterans hospital in Chillicothe and helped the Masons put on a Christmas party for children.
Hillsboro Chapter 441 was one of 66 Ohio Eastern Star Chapters recognized in Dayton as part of the organization’s Chapter Excellence Award Program, and one of just 33 to be named an outstanding chapter. There are more than 200 Eastern Star Chapters in Ohio. Award winners are selected by Ohio Eastern Star officers and committee members, who review reports submitted by the chapters.
Ohio’s statewide Eastern Star organization initiated the Chapter Excellence program in 2013. This is the third year that Hillsboro Chapter 441 has received statewide recognition for the programs, activities and overall excellence.
The awards were presented by Worthy Grand Matron Evelyn Hardesty of Johnston and Worthy Grand Patron WIlliam Taylor of Glenford during the ceremonies at the Dayton Convention Center.
Phyllis Walker, deputy grand matron, and Elizabeth Isenberger, worthy matron of Hillsboro Chapter, accepted the award on behalf of the chapter.
