New artists on display at library

The Hillsboro library is welcoming spring with new artwork on display.

Mother and daughter Kathy Emond and Melissa Bourne are both members of the Brush and Palette Art Guild. Their artwork has previously been on display at Highland District Hospital and the Highland County YMCA.

Emond paints in acrylics and said that she “just loves (painting) scenery.”

She has been painting since she was “a little kid,” Emond said, and has also taken a variety of art classes. Much of her inspiration comes from her previous travels in the military. Her favorite piece currently on display at the Hillsboro library depicts a German landscape.

Bourne said that she was inspired to paint “mostly because I saw my mom doing it.” She began painting in high school and then took some art classes in college. Bourne works in an array of mediums, including pen and ink, pastel, charcoal and acrylic paints.

“Everything but oil (painting),” she said.

Bourne’s favorite piece currently on display at the library is a sea scene.

The library’s assistant supervisor, Donna O’Dom, said that the mother and daughter duo are “experienced in multiple artistic mediums.”

“They have brought their lovely work for all to view,” she added.
