Women’s Club holds March meeting

The Hillsboro Women’s Club opened its March meeting with a medley of Irish melodies presented by Sally and Bill Rogers.

Bill accompanied Sally on the guitar as she sang many familiar melodies. Sally explained that some American tunes were influenced by Irish music. The two of them performed an enchanting duet, “The Hills That I Call Home.” They ended their delightful program with “Be Thou My Vision,” which is printed in the hymnals of many churches.

Following a delicious luncheon at the Hillsboro Senior Citizens Center, club president Helen Ford conducted the first meeting following the club’s winter hiatus. She complimented the hostesses, Pauline Cameron and Frieda Redkey, on their menu and their clever St. Patrick’s Day table decorations. Favors of green hats filled with candies were enjoyed by all.

Nineteen members answered roll call and the treasurer, Betty Ann Walker, reported a substantial balance in the club’s treasury. She also thanked the committee for decorating a room at the Highland House Museum for the recent Christmas season. Members were reminded that a motion passed at the last club meeting called for current officers to continue their duties for the coming year.

In new business, the president asked for volunteers for the coming Christmas decorating committee and offered to chair the committee herself. Toy Fender and Gretchen Huffman will assist in providing a “Pioneer Christmas” effect. It was agreed to donate to the Hillsboro High School After Prom Party. Ford also reminded members of several upcoming local events they might wish to put on their personal calendars.

Members will meet again on the second Tuesday of April when they will address an issue that was tabled at the March meeting.
