The Hillsboro Indians hosted the McClain Tigers on Tuesday evening in the final South Central Ohio League (SCOL) game of the season for both teams. The Indians went on to win by a final score of 12-0.
Prior to the first pitch Hillsboro, celebrating their senior night, honored seniors from both teams. The Indians featured six seniors; Hunter Chain, Cayse Cameron, Jonah Humphries, Corey Gausman, Brian Smith, and Sajoun Jones.
The Indians defense played stellar all night, led by starting pitcher Cameron the Indians only allowed one hit through four innings. Jones pitched the top of the fifth inning, allowing one hit, to close things out and assist in the win for Cameron and the Indians.
Hillsboro got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Humphries reached base courtesy of an error by the McClain short stop. Two batters later Smith blasted a double to score Humphries and give the Indians their first run of the night. Humphries went on to score when Payton Bell was able to reach base when the McClain catcher dropped the ball on a strikeout and was unable to recover in time for the out.
Seniors Humphries, and Chain, along with Mason Stanley all scored consecutive runs for the Indians to push the lead to 5-0 at the close of the second inning. Stanley, after belting a double of his own, was driven in on a single by Humphries. Chain drove in himself and Humphries on a massive home run over the left field wall.
The Indians added four runs in the third and three more in the fourth to put the game out of reach for the Tigers.
All six of Hillsboro’s seniors had at least one RBI on the night in what was a feel good game for the Indians and their fans.
Hillsboro head coach Matt Garman said, “Tonight all the seniors played great, they played great defense and everyone played well for us tonight.”
The Indians will be in action again on Wednesday when they visit cross-county rival Fairfield.
The Tigers finished up their regular season with this game and will be in tournament action, at home, on May 8th against New Lexington.
