Democratic party picnic Aug. 6

The Highland County Democratic Party will hold its annual picnic Aug. 6 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the Am-Vets Park, North Shore Drive, Hillsboro, in its air-conditioned banquet hall.

The guest speaker for the event will be state treasurer candidate Rob Richardson. Richardson served on the board of trustees at the University of Cincinnati, his alma mater. Richardson led the university in a fiscally responsible way while also making strategic investments that led to unprecedented growth.

Richardson is currently a marketing construction representative while also serving “of counsel” with the law firm Branstetter, Stranch & Jennings, where he specializes in securities litigation. Richardson wants to continue his record of innovation and growth at a statewide level.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown will be sending a surrogate speaker to bring attendees up to date on the events happening in Washington, D.C.

Also present will be democratic candidates for office for the City of Hillsboro this fall: David McKenna, judge of Hillsboro Municipal Court; Patricia Burns, candidate for Hillsboro City Treasurer; Brandon Leeth, council-at-large; William “Lee” Smith, first ward council; Jason Burns, second ward council; Tim Countryman, third ward council; and Mary Stanforth, fourth ward council.

Cowaburger will cater the event. The menu will include pulled pork, cole slaw, potato chips, dessert and drinks.

The event is free to the public with a free-will donation accepted. Door prizes and an auction will conclude the festivities. Everyone is invited and urged to attend to meet the candidates.
