Fairfield Lions boys golf preview

The Fairfield High School Lions golf team got into the swing of their season on August 7 when they traveled to Buttermilk Falls Golf Course in Brown County to take on the Eastern Warriors. The Lions will travel to Whiteoak Golf Course on August 24 to participate in a Southern Hills Athletic Conference tri-match against league rival the Manchester Greyhounds and cross county league rival the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs. Fairfield will close out their season on September 11 when they host cross county and league rivals Lynchburg-Clay and the Whiteoak Wildcats at Buckeye Hills Country Club.

The Lions enter the season with a young squad as only one golfer will be a senior for the squad this season. The team will be coached by Travis Teeters for the second year in a row. Teeters previously coached the Lions for 13 seasons before taking a three-year hiatus from the sport.

“We are very young this season. A couple of the kids have played a lot of golf this summer and we expect them to step up and be leaders and contributors to the team this season.”, said Teeters. “Golf starts fast and furious with the season. You have a few days of practice and then the matches start. We hope that we can hit our stride after fair break when the league starts and before we move into sectionals.”

The experience with the golf program that Teeters brings to the Lions team is an important factor in the success of the team, “I think it is important to bring experience to the program. We have had a lot of success over the years. But, it is important that the kids continue to invest time in the game of golf. This is something that they can play the rest of their life.”
