The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs soccer team opened their season on August 19 against the Western Brown Broncos. The Mustangs will host the Hillsboro Indians on September 18 and the McClain Tigers on October 9. Lynchburg-Clay will wrap up their season on October 13 when they host Southern Hills Athletic Conference rival the Ripley Blue Jays.
The Mustangs will be represented by eight seniors, four juniors, ten juniors, and three freshmen. Lynchburg-Clay will be coached by Dennis West again this season.
The Mustangs are looking forward to the 2016 season. “Three out of the last four years the boys have went undefeated in the league with trips to the district finals the last two years. We are looking forward to doing really well with this group of kids.”
Coach West noted the competitive drive that the team has this year. “They are really competitive. We have two returning seniors who were all state selections last season. We are looking forward to that.”
“The freshmen kids that are coming in are going to fill the spots left open by the three seniors from a year ago. We have really been pleased with that.”, said West.
“Experience is going to be the biggest strength of this team. I have a great group of soccer experienced players. A lot of these guys have been playing for years together. Their soccer knowledge and their soccer experience will be a big plus for us.”, West said.
West expressed his confidence in the team saying, “We are pretty solid on offense and defense both.”
