The McClain Lady Tigers golf team hosted the Miami Trace Lady Panthers on Wednesday at Buckeye Hills Country Club in Frontier Athletic Conference (FAC) play, the Lady Tigers went home with a 195 – 256 victor.
The 195 stroke team score for McClain sets a new season low for the team, besting their previous low of 204 which was set against FAC and cross county rival the Hillsboro Lady Indians.
The girls for McClain were impressive on their home course against Miami Trace as all but one Lady Tiger scored lower than every girl representing the Lady Panthers.
McClain was led in scoring by Bryn Karnes who shot a 43, Elissa Grate and Kendall Pollard each carded a 49, and Erika Martin had a 54 to finish the official scoring for the Lady Tigers.
Also representing McClain in the match were Bri Weller who shot a 55 and Cassidy Willis who finished with a 64.
The Lady Panthers were led by Shelbie Rowan who had a 57, Maddi Wallace with a 59, Tanner Bryant who shot a 69, and Bridgett Perkins who had a 71.
The win improved the Lady Tigers to 8 – 3 overall and 3 – 2 in FAC matches. Both of McClains league losses and all three losses overall have come at the hands of the Lady Indians from Hillsboro.
McClain head coach Jarrod Haines is confident that the improvement shown by his team this season is not an aberration. “The reason their scores are low is because they have put the time in and invested the time to get better. The week off for fair break is just time for them to get better and I am fully faithful that they will do that.”
“This is definitely the best score since I have been here. We just played a lot more relaxed tonight, the weather was beautiful. We had three girls shoot personal bests today. We have girls that are scoring low and it’s changing up. They are pushing each other and being competitive so it’s nice.”, said Haines.
The Lady Tigers will have a 12 day break between matches with the next match scheduled for September 11 against cross county rival the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs at Whiteoak Golf Course.
