An overturned semi-truck had U.S. 62 just south of the Brown County line closed in the overnight hours and much of the day Friday, and it wasn’t until about 3 p.m. that one lane opened back up.
Sgt. Wade Lewis of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Georgetown post told The Times-Gazette on scene that the truck overturned around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night, and crews had only just righted it early Friday afternoon.
“It’s just been a bear getting this thing back on its wheels,” he said.
Lewis and dispatchers at the post said they had limited information on the accident, but Lewis said the truck took out several telephone poles before coming to a rest in a soybean field by the side of the road.
The accident left a large pile of food items and trash in the southbound lane, including a variety of fruits and vegetables and some packaged meat.
Crews with the Ohio Department of Transportation responded to the scene and were directing traffic throughout the afternoon as workers attempted to get the trailer on a tow truck.
An ODOT crew member told The Times-Gazette that crews had arranged for Rumpke to come pick up the trash.
No further information was immediately available.
