McClain travels to Troy Christian in search of first win; fall 28 -7

The McClain Tigers traveled to Troy on Friday night to take on the Troy Christian High School Eagles in search of their first win of the season. However, the Tigers were unable to pull out the victory and fell to the Eagles by a final score of 28 – 7.

McClain got off to a good start in the first quarter when Kyler Trefz scored a touchdown for the Tigers and the defense was able to hold the Eagles scoreless.

Troy Christian got on the board in the second quarter with 13 seconds remaining. The ensuing point after kick was good for the Eagles to tie it up at 7 – 7 heading into halftime.

The wheels fell off for the Tigers in the second half as they were held scoreless.

With 8:38 to go in the third quarter the Eagles were able to score again but, the point after was no good resulting in a 13 – 7 lead for Troy Christian.

A wild stretch of five turnovers in six plays between the two teams resulted in the Eagles gaining possession and adding another touchdown and successful two-point conversion to go up 21 – 7.

The Tigers defense was staunch in the fourth quarter but were ultimately unable to hold the Eagles out of the end zone as they added a final touchdown and extra point to go up 28 – 7 to ice the game.

The Tigers will continue their search for their first win next week when they open up Frontier Athletic Conference play in Washington Court House against the Miami Trace Panthers.
