Fairfield takes down Georgetown on senior night 3 – 0

The Lady Lions volleyball team celebrated senior night on Monday as they hosted the Lady G-Men of Georgetown and won in straight sets 25 – 7, 25 – 12 and 25 – 19.

The win improves Fairfield to 7 – 12 overall on the season. The Lady Lions will finish up their regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Fayetteville to take on the Lady Rockets in Southern Hills Athletic Conference (SHAC) action. Fairfield is 6 – 5 in SHAC play and will finish with a .500 or better record in league play regardless of Tuesday’s result.

“My seniors have been good leaders for the team this year,” said head coach Megan Young.

The Lady Lions dominated the first set against Georgetown winning handily to gain the momentum they needed to have a successful night.

The second set was not as easy for Fairfield as the 25 – 12 score would indicate. The Lady G-Men came out of the set break on fire and went up 5 – 0 early in the set. The Lady Lions stormed back to tie it at 5 – 5 and 6 – 6 before going a a huge run that ended with Fairfield in control at 14 – 7. From there the Lady Lions were able to cruise to an easy set win and a 2 – 0 lead in the match.

Georgetown found its groove in the third set as they challenged the Lady Lions from start to finish. The set included a spirited rally from the Lady G-Men who were down 19 – 10 at one point before rallying to get within four. But it was not in the cards on this night for the Brown County girls as they would lose the set and the match 3 – 0.

“This season was definitely an improvement from last season. We had more wins this season. That has helped motivate the girls. They went from thinking they are going to lose coming into the game to honestly believing they can win going into each and every game. I am very happy with the wins we have had,” said Young.

Young also said, “I look forward going into nominations for all league and all district. We have had some really standout players this year who have played consistent in pretty much every game.”
