The McClain Lady Tigers will open their regular season on November 28 when they host the Lady Shermans of Unioto.
The Lady Tigers are coached by Jarrod Haines and will be led by three seniors and five juniors.
The team will look to the three seniors to provide leadership on and off the court this season.
“We are young this year. We play scrappy but, we are going to have to overcome peoples runs. We can not get our heads down,” said Haines.
Maddy Stegbauer, a junior guard, will be the engine that propels the Lady Tigers this season.
Haines said of Stegbauer, “We are going to go as Maddy goes. She has put her time in, she is one of our best defenders and now we are going to be looking at her to carry a big load of the offense.”
With a fairly experienced team this season Haines expects experience and defense to be a strength of the team this year.
“The experience is going to help defensively. These kids have been through the program and they have been brought up right by our junior high and junior varsity coaches and they know how to play defense,” Haines said.
Haines expects the girls to get better as the season goes along, “We have to get better. That is it, just get better every game. We play a brutal schedule with some really good teams. We want to knock off as many as we can, but we just want to get better.”
Jarrod also took the time to mention Mikenzie Coleman who is returning to the program after not playing last season.
“We are looking for a lot of leadership out of Mikenzie. She did not play last year so having her back is a big deal,” said Haines.
