The Hillsboro High School boys and girls bowling team opened their season on Monday, November 20 at Highland Lanes in Hillsboro when they took on Wilmington, Fairfield, Lynchburg-Clay and Whiteoak.
The teams are coached by Jeff Miller and will feature four seniors between the teams with the girls having three seniors and the boys having one senior.
Miller believes that the Lady Indians bowling team is one of the best in the state this season, “We are fortunate to have one of the best girls teams in the state right now. We finished fifth in the D I district tournament last year and only lost one senior off of that squad. We also gained a freshman this year that is actually bowling better than the senior we lost. We were one of the best last year and now we are going to be one of the top three or four teams in the state this year.”
The boys team was state runner-up last season in D II and coach Miller is unsure what to expect this season, “I don’t know that we will be as strong as we were last year, but there is no reason that we cannot win a bunch of matches.”
“Every one of our starting varsity players and returning varsity lettermen have everything they need to succeed. It is more of a mental game for them at this point. I have to keep their head in the right spot in order to perform at the level we are used to performing at,” said Miller.
