The Hillsboro High School Indians basketball team will open their season on Thursday November 30 when they host the Eastern Warriors.

Bruce Miles, the head coach of the Indians, enters his fourth season as head coach with a team that he expects to compete at a high level.

“We have high expectations to be very competitive in the Frontier Athletic Conference. Our goal is to come out and absolutely compete night in an night out. We have some talented guys and a lot of athleticism so I am very excited about the season,” said Miles.

According to Miles the Indians have to change their team identity to be successful this season, “Defensively we have to improve across the board. We are not going to win games giving up the amount of points we did last year. We have to change our identity and that starts on the defensive end. We have got to be much much better.”

The Indians coach knows he will have to be patient with this team, “It is a slow process, we are doing some different concepts on the defensive end. It is a slow process and it is going to take take. But, they are embracing it and they know we have to get better to compete in a very competitive league.”

The Indians return three seniors and six varsity players from the 2016-2017 squad and Miles knows that his team will only go as far as his three seniors can take them.

“Phillip MyCroft is our post player, he was an All-League kid as a sophomore. He is a hard worker and everyone knows Phil is going to play hard every night. Marshall Ward is our floor general, he is very strong with the ball, very athletic, fast and can get to the basket. Cameron Reed is all energy all the time. He is a very streaky shooter, he can get hot at times and really help us from the perimeter. Cameron does a lot of good things defensively because of his length he is able to get his hands on the ball. I am excited having those three seniors lead our team this year,” Miles said.
