The Lady Tigers displayed a ton of heart on Tuesday in their season opening 47-19 home loss to the Unioto Lady Shermans.

The game was quickly put out of reach by the Lady Shermans as they quickly opened up a 12-3 lead six minutes into the game.

Following a timeout by McClain head coach Jarrod Haines the Lady Tigers were able to escape the quarter trailing 13-3 after holding Unioto to one point for the rest of the first.

Unioto did not let up as the second frame saw the Lady Sherman Tanks hold McClain to four points.

The Lady Shermans were paced by Jocie Fisher in the second quarter as she scored six of her eight points in the quarter.

The Lady Tigers inexperience got the best of them in the first half as they turned the ball over on multiple occasions.

McClain also struggled to get anything going on the offensive end of the court as the Unioto defensive front limited them to seven points in the first half.

McClain continued to battle in the third quarter and put up six points as Kelli Whrig, Bryn Karnes, and Mikenzie Coleman each scored two points in the quarter.

Unioto added to their lead as they scored 14 in the third quarter to take a 38-13 lead heading into the fourth.

McClain held the Lady Shermans to nine points in the fourth quarter and recorded six of their own to provide the final 47-19 score.

Coach Haines kept things in perspective for his team after the game, “We have a lot of young and inexperienced kids. Many of the kids are in a new situation and they were really really nervous. But, we will be alright it is going to take time. We have 12 kids up there that are great kids. They come because they want to get better and they understand what happened tonight. I don’t have to say much to them, they know we have to come in tomorrow and get better.”

The Lady Tigers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Jackson to take on the Jackson Lady Ironmen in the first ever Frontier Athletic Conference basketball game.
