Cookies with Characters

More than 20 favorite children’s characters will be on hand when the Highland County Senior Citizens Center hosts its annual Southern Hills Community Bank Presents Cookies with Characters event on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Among the cast of characters this year will be some new ones resembling Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Pluto, LOL Doll, My Little Pony and a new Paw Patrol character. In addition there will be three time slots this year — 9 to 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. — with a limited number of tickets available for each time slot.

“They’re not all different, but there are some new characters,” said Mechell Frost, executive director of the senior center. “If you like Disney characters and other popular characters like princesses, super heroes and things like that, you’re going to love this event.”

Frost said a couple other changes will be that rather than serving a meal, a $10 kids ticket will get them admission to the event and a chance to dance and interact with their favorite characters; a cookie, ice cream and drink; plus a character bucket and coloring book. She said kids will also be able to complete a craft and there will be more room for kids to dance and interact with the characters.

Admission for adults is $6 and includes ice cream, a cookie and a drink. Frost said adults are also welcome to interact with their children and the characters.

Children 11 months old and younger are free.

When ordering tickets, adults will also be able to order a $2 “mystery box” for their kids. Frost said it will have four to five items inside and guests can pick the box up with their ticket when they enter the center.

“Kids love to open boxes and this is a way to add a little additional fun and raise money for the senior center,” Frost said.

To order tickets, visit www.highlandseniors.com or stop by the senior center at 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro. The center can be reached at 937-393-4745 for more details.

Southern Hills Community Bank is the event’s main sponsor, with Highland Auto Service, Crowe Financial Group, State Farm Insurance – Amatha Farrers, Wilkin Heating and A/C, Hillsboro Elks Lodge 361, McCarty & Associates, Southern State Community College and Weller’s Plumbing and Heating serving as honorable mention sponsors.

“Thanks to them kids have the opportunity to see their favorite characters close to home, and we are able to make the event a fundraiser for the senior center,” Frost said.
