A suspect in a Friday morning robbery at a Seaman gas station was identified late Friday afternoon by police as Brandon Carter, 44, Seaman, according to numerous reports.

Carter was among the four people now reported as deceased during a morning crime spree in Adams and Pike counties, according to WKRC-TV. The station said Carter allegedly fatally shot a delivery drive, with a store clerk recovering from a gunshot wound following the incident that occurred at the 1st Stop Mini Mart at the intersection of SR 32 and SR 247 in Adams County.

Adams County sheriff Kimmy Rogers said he had spoken to the victim’s father, who told him his daughter’s condition was “good,” according to reports.

WKRC-TV reported the robbery at the 1st Stop netted Carter $317, and that his home on SR 770 near Seaman, that was engulfed in flames as the crime unfolded, may be connected to the shootings, robberies and and an ensuing police chase.

Reports said Rogers said there were three crime scenes in Adams County and one in Pike County that were under investigation.

Authorities reported that Carter led police on a chase that ended in Pike County, where Carter was found dead in his truck of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officials placed both the Peebles and North Adams schools on lock down while they searched for the shooter.

Rogers said the call of a reported robbery was received at around 7:30 a.m. He said details were sketchy, but confirmed a delivery driver died at the scene and EMTs transported the wounded clerk to a Cincinnati-area hospital, according to WKRC.

According to WCPO-TV, two witnesses having coffee saw Carter enter the establishment from the back door and then force the clerk outside, attempting to force her into his vehicle, identified as a 1999 green Dodge Dakota.

They reported the clerk was able to break free from Carter, who then shot her in the back.

WXIX-TV reported that the chase ended in Beaver Township in Pike County when stop sticks were deployed and Carter’s truck crossed the median on SR 32 between Darst Road and Coal Dock Road, which are between Jaspar and Beaver, southeast of Waverly.

The Adams County Sheriff’s office said it and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation were pursuing details of Adams County crime scenes, and that the Ohio State Highway Patrol was investigating the pursuit and death of the suspect.
