One person was killed in a single-vehicle accident at SR 73 and Airborne Road at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Wilmington Post said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Jeep SUV, driven by Joseph Ramsey, 53, of Martinsville, was traveling eastbound on SR 73 near Airborne Road when his vehicle crossed the median, drove off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire.
Ramsey was the only occupant inside of the vehicle and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash.
Assisting at the crash scene were the Wilmington Fire Department, Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Wilmington Police Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
A crew with a flatbed truck could be seen transporting the burned vehicle from a field near the intersection at about 7:30 p.m.
