Lady Indians drop close one against Trace

The Miami Trace Lady Panthers traveled to Highland County to take on the Hillsboro Lady Indians on Jan. 11 in a Frontier Athletic Conference basketball game.

At the end of the first quarter, Miami Trace led Hillsboro 13-9. Hillery ‘Bean’ Jacobs of Miami Trace and Blake Herdman of Hillsboro each scored five points in the opening period.

The Lady Panthers outscored Hillsboro 11-9 in the second quarter to take a 24-18 halftime lead. At the half, Herdman led Hillsboro with seven points, and Kaelin Pfeifer had seven for Miami Trace.

Hillsboro won the third quarter, 13-12, to draw within five points heading into the final quarter.

The Miami Trace defense was able to contain Hillsboro and keep them from closing the gap as they held on for a 46-41 road victory over the Lady Indians.

Hillsboro was led by Herdman with 12 points, followed by Riley Scott with nine, Addyson Miles with eight, Peighton Bledsoe with six, Kobie Miles with four, and Kyra Boyd with two.

Jacobs led Miami Trace with 12 points, followed by Jessee Stewart and Pfeifer with 11 points, Ellie Robinette with five, Naveah Lyons and Mallory Lovett with four, and Hillary McCoy with three points.

Hillsboro (0-8 in the FAC and 2-15 overall) travels to Leesburg on Thursday for a non-conference contest against Fairfield with a 7:15 varsity tip.

Miami Trace (5-3 in the FAC, 11-6 overall) was at home on Wednesday against Circleville.
