Fire consumes Nutrien office

A fire that could have been much worse than it was destroyed an office building Monday morning at Nutrien AG Solutions, Inc. in Mowrystown.

The Southern Highland Volunteer Fire Department in Mowrystown received a call from a passerby reporting the fire at 9:39 a.m. Monday. Southern Highland Assistant Chief A.J. Streeter said that upon arrival at the 115 W. Main St. business firefighters found fire showing through the roof of the office building on the property.

It took the firefighters a minute to assess the situation, Streeter said, because two employees were in the office building working. He said he figured the fire could have been burning for 20 to 30 minutes up in the attic without anyone noticing because it was so foggy outside.

He said the company handles farm chemicals, seed and fertilizer, but all those items were stored in a building next door and firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to that building.

The office building was a total loss, according to Streeter.

Southern Highland received mutual aid from the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District, and fire departments in Sardinia, Mount Orab, and Winchester and Scott and Wayne townships in Adams County.

No injuries were reported.

The Mowrystown firefighters cleared the scene between 12 and 12:30 p.m.
