Eighteen indicted by county grand jury

A Hillsboro man charged with rape and gross sexual imposition was among 18 people indicted Tuesday by a Highland County grand jury.

Clayton Collins, 25, was indicted on one count of rape, a first-degree felony; and one count of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony.

According to court documents for the first count, on or around April 15, 2021, and continuing through Aug. 23, 2022, Clayton Collins engaged in sexual conduct with the victim, the victim not being their spouse and also less than 10 years old.

According to court documents for the second count, on or around the period of Aug. 29, 2014, and continuing through Aug. 28, 2016, Collins had sexual conduct with the victim who was not their spouse, with the victim being 4 to 6 years old.

In other indictments, Ronald Shepherd, 67, Sardinia, was indicted on one count of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony.

According to court documents, on or around the period starting on June 1, 2021, and continuing after that, Shepherd had sexual contact with a 10-year-old victim.

Jennifer Baker, 60, Hillsboro, was indicted on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony; aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony; and a forfeiture specification.

According to court documents for the first count, on or around Oct. 28, 2022, Baker knowingly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to someone with a Remington 870 12-gauge shotgun.

According to court documents for the second count, on or around Oct. 28, 2022, Baker, while under the influence of a sudden passion or a sudden fit of rage, either of which were brought on by a “ serious provocation” by the victim, attempted to cause physical harm to the victim by means of a Remington 870 12-gauge shotgun.

According to court documents for the third count, the grand jurors found that on or around Oct. 28, 2022, Baker possessed a Remington 870 12-gauge shotgun that was subject to forfeiture because of its instrumentality in the offense.

Daniel Miller, 46, Greenfield, was indicted on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony.

According to court documents, on or around Dec. 21, 2022, Miller caused “serious physical harm” to a victim.

Dylan Harner, 25, Dayton, was indicted on one count of receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; theft, a fifth-degree felony; and identity fraud, a fourth-degree felony.

According to court documents for the first count, on or around Oct. 21, 2022, and continuing until Nov. 1, 2022, Harner and co-conspirator received, retained or disposed of a 2000 Audi TT that did not belong to them.

According to court documents for the second count, on or around Jan. 4, 2023, Harner deprived someone of their property with a value greater than $1,000 but less than $7,500.

According to court documents for the third count, on or around Jan. 4, 2023, Harner, without permission of the owner, possessed personal identifying information with the intent to “hold himself out as” the victim.

Shane Rhoads, 36, Chillicothe, was indicted on one count of breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony; theft, a fifth-degree felony; and criminal damaging, a second-degree misdemeanor.

According to court documents for the first count, on or around Dec. 17, 2022, Rhoads trespassed in an unoccupied structure on North Shore Drive with the purpose of committing a theft.

According to court documents for the second count, on or around Dec. 17, 2022, Rhoads stole dishes, tools, clothing and other miscellaneous items, without the victim’s consent, with the property valued at more than $1,000 but less than $7,500.

According to court documents for the third count, on or around Dec. 17, 2022, Rhoads created a substantial risk of physical harm to windows, security bars, a jukebox, couch, door, toilet, file cabinet and other miscellaneous items.

Also indicted on Tuesday were:

* Keith Bennett, Jr., 51, Greenfield, for tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; and failure to appear, a fourth-degree felony, from two separate cases.

* Kelley Humphrey, 26, Beavercreek, for tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.

* Avalon Rich, 21, Lynchburg, for two counts of receiving stolen property, both fourth-degree felonies.

* Bryce Ballein, 30, Hillsboro, for receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony.

* Kaylea Burdette, 31, New Vienna, for receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony.

* Tristen Nelson, 19, Sardinia, for theft, a fifth-degree felony; breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony; and two counts of receiving stolen property, one being a fifth-degree felony and the other being a first-degree misdemeanor.

* Jaden Florence, 22, Sardinia, for theft, a fifth-degree felony; breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony; and receiving stolen property, a first-degree misdemeanor.

* Alisha Looney, 41, Greenfield, for theft, a fifth-degree felony.

* Brandon Cannon, 45, Greenfield, for theft, a fifth-degree felony.

* Aaron Hunt, 40, Greenfield, for failure to comply with the order or signal of a police office, a third-degree felony; and aggravated possession of meth, a fifth-degree felony.

* Jason Bond, 44, Greenfield, for theft, a fifth-degree felony.

* Sylvia Cutler, 34, Piketon, for failure to appear, a fourth-degree felony.
