Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped (SATH) will host its 14th annual Auction & Carnival at the Rocky Fork State Park Campground at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 during this year’s KAMP Dovetail event.

The auction is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to make a donation of a craft, homemade item or any other item to be sold at the auction.

Auction items will include an autographed poster of former Cincinnati Reds pitcher and broadcaster Joe Nuxhall, Ohio State items, and other signed Cincinnati Reds memorabilia, gift baskets and other donated items.

“A lot of people just start bringing items the week of camp, so we never know what we’re going to come up with until that day, but we still do need items if people want to bring anything to donate,” said SATH Executive Director Linda Allen.

Proceeds from the auction will be used to support KAMP (Kids and Motivated People) Dovetail, a five-day, four-night annual volunteer-run summer camp at the Rocky Lake State Park serving children with special needs. More than 300 special needs children attend the camp each year, and it is supported by approximately 400 volunteers.

The camp primarily serves special needs children in Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette and Highland counties, but is available to those in 30 of Ohio’s counties.

Each child at the camp is teamed up with a personal volunteer to ensure the best experience for every participant.

Allen said she hopes to raise at least $5,000 from the auction. She said various events held in support of KAMP Dovetail during the past year have raised nearly $75,000 for this year’s camp.

Those with items to donate may drop them off at Kamp Dovetail anytime June 19-21 before 6 p.m.

“It should be a fun evening, so we want to invite the public to come out and bring their lawn chairs,” said Allen. “Bring your family because kids can participate in the carnival while parents participate in the auction.”
