Orcutt on Fantasy Football: Week 8 waiver wire

0

Ok Fantasy Football Family looks like I made it back after a two-week hiatus. We made it through Week 7 but not without injuries and underperformances. If you have had injuries or you are looking for a player to add to your team because you had some under-performing players, then I am here for you.

I will give you names to pick up on your teams and beside each name I will put a percentage, which is the number of teams that player is being rostered acros all Yahoo leagues. These are in no particular order; they are laid out by position.

Running Back

Darrell Henderson Jr. (25%) Last week we were all surprised with Kyren Williams going on IR with an ankle sprain. I was a rush to the Waiver Wire to get some combination of Zach Evans, Royce Freeman and Myles Gaskin. We were told Royce Freeman would start and he did but Henderson led the RBs in snaps with 39. He had 66 yards and TD and looks like he is the lead back while Williams is out. Freeman (28%) is also a strong add but that is all the further I would go.

Pierre Strong Jr. (1%) Jerome Ford went down in Week 7 with a high ankles sprain and appears to be out for at least 2 weeks. Enter Kareem Hunt (65%) as the starter but every starter has to have a back up and in this case that is Pierre Strong. Pick him up if you have a deep bench or you own Hunt.

Emari Demercado (15%) Well in Week 6 I told you Demercado would be the lead back while Connor was out, I was wrong in Week 6 but right in Week 7 as Demercado led the backfield. Going into Week 8, give me Demercado with Keaontay Ingram (23%) as a handcuff.

Other RBs to consider: Devin Singletary (15%), Latavious Murray (21%), DeeJay Dallas (1%)

Wide Receivers

Jayden Reed (16%) He seen 50% of the snaps last week and caught and unintentional TD. Whenever Christian Watson has been out with an injury, Reed has stepped up. Watson came out of Week 7 with an injury, so if he misses time, Reed would be the beneficiary.

Josh Downs (37%) Downs has become a downfield target favorite for this team with Gardner Minshew at QB. Downs looks like a WR you can count on rest of the season.

Jaxson Smith-Njigba (59%) Don’t blow your first waiver-wire spot on him or all your FAAB but if DK Metcalf continues to miss games, Smith-Njigba could have a role after he scored in Week 7. Once Metcalf comes back, trade Njigba away.

Other WRs to consider: Marquez Valdes-Scantling (3%), Juaun Jennings (2%), Demario Douglas (0%)

Tight End

Trey McBride (2%) He was targeted 6 times in the Week 7 loss to Seattle but with Zach Ertz going on IR, McBride will take over as the Top TE on this team that uses the TE position.

Jake Ferguson (47%) he may have been dropped after a couple of subpar games but he’s games where he has been targeted 7 times, so the opportunity is there for him to get targets and fall into the endzone.

Other TEs to consider: Taysom Hill (10%), Jonnu Smith (41%), Gerald Everett (25%)

Quarterback

Gardner Minshew (9%) Minshew has always been a gun slinger of a QB, ‘high risk, high reward.” He is not afraid to throw the ball all over the field and make things happen. Definitely a QB2 rest of the season.

Mac Jones (8%) Did he turn a corner against Buffalo? Hopefully because he has an exploitable matchup against Miami in Week 8. Probably not a single QB starter but he could be a streamer or QB2
