The Lynchburg-Clay Local School District has closed its doors for remainder of the week due to illness, superintendent Jack Fisher announced Wednesday night on the district’s Facebook page.

“The elementary school has been overcome with flu and strep causing many students and staff to miss school,” Fisher wrote.

He said the middle school and high school are also dealing with sick students.

The message said: “Good evening. I have made the difficult decision to close school for Thursday January 25 and Friday January 26 due to the amount of sickness among our students and staff. The elementary school has been overcome with flu and strep causing many students and staff to miss school. The high school and middle are also experiencing sickness. Although the numbers are less severe, closing middle school and high school ensures that many of our families can have an option for child care.

“High school and middle school will still be able to have afternoon/evening activities that have already been scheduled. ALL elementary activities will be cancelled until Monday January 29. We want to stop the spread of sickness and give people time to get well.

“We apologize for any hardship this causes, but we feel this action is necessary given the situation.

“Have a good evening.”
